As you might have noticed with all the previously-released Sounds and lag times between posting dates and reality, Sound of the Day in its current state has been coming (lurching?) to an end. But that doesn't mean that it's going away... Oh no no no, heavens no!
We're currently under a process of rejuvenation and reinvention that will most likely mean fewer podcasts per month, but more focused energies and enthusiasm for the podcasting genre. We're not sure exactly what form the new show will take, but we have some great ideas. One thing is certain: our dedication to fresh new Sounds and music will always be at the core of our overriding mission for this show.
We appreciate your patience as we retool and rethink our approach to podcasting. To people who have been listening since December 2004, those who just started listening recently, and everyone in between, we are truly grateful and look forward to coming back with newfound focus and dedication in the coming months. At this point, we anticipate being back online sometime in early 2007... hopefully January. In the mean time, we'll be working on bringing all the archives online and will take time to check in and see how everyone's doing from time to time.

Special Note
Times are changing and the Sound of the Day is too.
During October, we'll be evaluating the future of this podcast to determine if we have the resources to do new shows or if we should just say it's been a wonderful experience and move on to other projects. October Sounds will come from the archives and contain some of our favorites from over the last 20+ months, so don't be surprised if you've heard the themes before and they change from day to day.
One way or the other, we love what we've been able to accomplish and look forward to the future of podcasting.

"As might be appropriate for marking Father's Day, I've attached a never-before-shared recording from an experience I treasure that features a father and son performing together.
When my wife and I were on our honeymoon in 2000 we visited Burma. This recording was made a day or so before Christmas at the Mandalay intercity bus terminal we arrived into. Amid the late afternoon traffic, a father and young sun were busking in the dirt lot where the buses parked. The father was playing a simple metallophone (or set of resonant metal cups) and his son was playing percussion with a pair of spoons. After I ponied up a tip befitting a "wealthy" foreign tourist, they were happy to play a few songs for my me to enjoy and record, while my wife ran interference chatting with the various (relatively easy-going) friendly touts advertising their hotels."
