Although this isn't the normal sound made by the instrument featured today, anyone who has played one will recognize the Sound of the Day podcast sound for today. What instrument can be played in what way to make that sound? Points awarded for each portion of the question answered. ;)

The Sound of the Day for July 2, 2005 is scraping the strings on a bass guitar. You know how some guitar strings have a rough surface? If you scrape them lengthwise, this is the sound they can make.
